What Causes a House to Be Infested with Spiders & How Do You Keep Spiders Away in Cherry Hill, NJ?

As we approach the fall season, you may notice that there are some pests in particular that are going to become more active with the cooler temperatures. Spiders are one of them. There is a reason that spiders are often associated with Halloween. They are extremely active as the weather starts to cool off and winter approaches. When dealing with spiders, it is important that you know what you’re dealing with. Ross Environmental Solutions is here to talk about spiders and how to get rid of them in your home this fall.

What are Spiders Learned Behavior?

Spiders aren’t like other pests that set up their nest and stay close. They are often on the move. This means that just because you notice there are webs in certain areas of your home, that doesn’t mean there is necessarily a spider that is living in it. Spiders will often build a web and then move onto another area in your home that suits their needs better. They often look for places that are secluded and won’t be disturbed by anyone else. This means you may find spiders in areas like garages, basements, closets and window frames. However, once they settle into a space, females will be laying their eggs and an infestation can easily happen. Females lay about 400 eggs at a time.

Which Spider Species Should I Avoid?

For the most part, spiders are actually harmless. Most of the spiders you find in your home are more of a nuisance than they are a threat. This doesn’t mean that people are any more likely to want them around. However, there are a couple of different types of spiders that you need to be careful around.
– Black Widow: This is a black spider with a red hourglass shape on its belly. They are usually found in messy webs and are venomous if they bite you. While they don’t usually kill someone with their bite, you can get quite sick. If you are ever bitten by a black widow, it is best to seek medical treatment right away.
– Brown Recluse: This is another spider that has a dangerous bite. It is a brown spider with a black fiddle shaped mark on its back. If it bites, you can expect serious injury to follow. The skin can start to rot away and get necrotic. They are usually found in areas where they aren’t going to be disturbed. They don’t like to come in contact with humans. They will only bite you if they feel that they are threatened. If you are bitten by a brown recluse, make sure you seek medical treatment as soon as possible.
